About Us

The Academic Planning Unit was created in the 80s in line with NUC's directive to all Nigerian universities to create a unit that will serve as liaison officer between universities and the NUC. Before the establishment of APU, the functions of APU were under the Development Office in the registry department. Academic Planning came on board with the appointment of Principal Assistant Registrar as the officer-in-charge. The first substantive Director (Prof. T. A. Gbodi) was appointed in 1997 with five member of staff. Presently, the staff strength of the unit has risen from 5 to 22.

Additionally, the Academic Planning Unit is charged to promote quality in the performance of the core business of teaching, learning and research in the university through periodic evaluation of its academic activities, this led to the creation of the Quality Assurance and Productivity Unit in line with NUC directive in 2010.

Vision

To be a leading Academic Planning Unit in Universities setting that will ensure excellent service delivery and orderly academic development of the University in the performance of its statutory functions of teaching, research as well as public service.

He is currently the Director of Academic Planning in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. He is the current Chairman, Committee of Directors of Academic Planning of Nigerian Universities (CODAPNU). He completed his PhD in 2005 in Applied Mathematics, specializing in Numerical Analysis from University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. His research works encompass: Numerical solution of both Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, via Linear Multistep methods (LMM), Runge-Kutta Method and R-k Type methods among other methods. For more than a decade, he has been working on both Linear and Non-linear problems, arising from Chemical Engineering, Transport and Bio-mathematics. He is a theoretician who cares a lot about the practical interpretation of modeling and chemical reactions, and appreciates interdisciplinary research. The most prominent innovation has been the conversion of Some Linear Multistep Methods (LMM) to Runge-Kutta (single step) and uses it to solve both initial and boundary value problem. Prof. Yahaya has authored and co-authored more than 45 publications in Peer Reviewed Journals. In addition to his active involvement in the teaching of Mathematics courses, he has successfully supervised and graduated 5 PhD and over 15 MTech or MSc students. He is a member of Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS) and Nigerian Association of Mathematical Physics (NAMP).
